It's Sunday the 12th February, the ladies (kinda) of Wandsworth Borough FC trickled in from far and wide in our usual dysfunctional manner to Kings House sports ground to take on Sporting Duet. Andy desperately counting heads through fear we got stuck in the dreaded Twickenham Rugby traffic. Their recording equipment was primed to capture a spectacular win... just not the win they expected.

Pre-work outs consumed, pre-match chat completed, we lined up. Wandsworth women pushed forward straight off the bat, pressing high as a unit, playing the majority of the first 20 minutes in Sporting Duets half. The frequent long balls from our rivals were booted & headed back one after the other. Our trusty lineswoman Chantal keeping the game honest waving her flag proudly at the numerous offsides. To save our legs and stay fresh Freya & Mozza were subbed off for Kourtney & Leah at 30 minutes.

Half time rolled on fast, both sides holding strong at 0-0. Play continued and tensions were high. Gemma took an ambitious shot at goal, kissing the post! It soon looked as though we had our first break, a scrappy attack through their defensive line lead to a gooooaaaallll at 59 minutes, though soon to be disallowed due to a supposed foul by Roxy on her approach. Our very own Gemma Manley was sin binned for calling the decision 'A *beep* joke' after the Ref disallowed the magnificent play by Roxy. It soon began to look more like a weekend in Vegas, with card after card being dealt to both sides.

Now with 10 players on the field for the next 10 minutes we subbed Freya & Mozza back on for Lisa & Leah. Our attack continued... and by a stroke of luck...a hand ball...right in the box! PENALTY we roared! Tara stepped up confidently to the mark. A cheeky, but powerful shot into the bottom right corner couldn't be stopped! 0-1 to the BORO!!

With 1 player down we battled, but with a naughty tug of shirts our opponent snapped, slapping Roxy to the ground like a scene out of Eastenders. A red card was presented for Sporting Duet. Now with both teams on 10 players, play continued. At 75 minutes our rivals equalised with an unstoppable shot from out wide. However, the sin bin timer rang!! And Gemma was back, with hunger in her eyes.

Our barrage of attacks into Sporting Duets half continued, but now we had the advantage. With some impressive link ups down the right flank, Gemma weaved through the defensive line into the right corner of the pitch, curled a shot across the goal, the ball tucked neatly into the far side, 1-2 to the BORO!! We held firm until the final whistle and gained our first 3 points of the season!!
