WBLFC Vs Croydon

Sunday saw the top of the table clash against Croydon WFC. WBFCW had a strong squad ready to take on the challenge for top spot.

The first 20 mins saw the borough ladies start strong, most of the play was in the Croydon half. Very soon Croydon began to push back and in the 22nd minute our defence were caught off guard and Croydon scored. Unfortunately Borough began to feel the pressure and just before half time Croydon slotted another one into our net. Just before half-time, Kirsty had a goal disallowed for offside, which the referee later admitted he should not have given. Looking back, a possible turning point. 0-2 at HT.

During HT WBL tried to re-group knowing that we still had it in us to come back and that the next goal would be crucial. Unfortunately 10 mins in Croydon took their 3rd goal, 0-3 to Croydon. At this point Borough seemed to get themselves together and began to play our football. In the 75th minute on the half volley with the outside of her right foot, Kirsty puts the ball over the head of the Croydon keeper into the back of the net 1-3. WBL began to dig deep and fight back, however this all seemed just a little too late. Croydon fought back just as hard and scored again leaving the final score at 1-4 to Croydon.

The ladies now have a well earned week off and time to re group and come back fighting in our next game against Tooting.
