The smell of vengeance was in the air in Molesey on Sunday, the ladies looking to exact retribution for a defeat to these opponents earlier in the season, where a 2-1- lead was transformed into a 4-2 defeat in the last 10 minutes, against the backdrop of a foul tirade from the Molesey bench towards our innocent management team. Convinced that we were the better team on that day, the ladies took the field with fire spouting from their nostrils and steam from their ears.

Within 25 minutes we were 4-0 down, apparently forgetting that motivation and determination cannot compensate for basic skills like pressing and marking. Their prolific centre-forward, who scored a hat-trick against us last time out, was rampant as she ran through our defence at will, scoring herself and having a hand in the three others. I think they call this a ‘learning exercise’.

The half-time break was understandably grim, but we knew we could play a lot better and resolved to do just that in the second half.

After 70 minutes we got a glimmer of hope as a needless handball led to a penalty which was duly dispatched by Kirsty. Ten minutes later Kirsty lobbed the ball ‘into the mix’ and in the resultant melee Motty prodded home to raise hope of a sensational comeback. Unfortunately, as we pushed forward the inevitable gaps appeared at the back and their excellent forward added two more to complete her second hat-trick against us.

Two games against strong opposition coming up now so we need to ‘get back on the horse’ and translate plans into action on the pitch. Up the Borough!
