Wandsworth Borough Women faced off against Brentford Development in the cup at home with only 10 players. A slightly rocky start by the ladies saw them go a goal down in the first 10 mins but they were not disheartened by this. They kicked off and flew into attack down the right-wing with Gemma Priest and Laura Mott linking brilliantly to cause the defence some real problems. Kirsty Mulcahey played some nice through balls to Katy Braithwaite on the left and Lisa Manley held the middle of the park extremely well considering the opposition had a player over.

20 minutes in the ladies equalised with a fantastic long-range effort from Kirsty Mulcahey after a superb run which saw her beat 3 players before striking it home into the roof on the net. The ladies kept pushing and attacking and were by far the better side and broke through again with an amazing goal by Lisa Manley from a short corner with Kirsty Mulcahey. The ball looped over the goalkeeper and found the back of the net spectacularly.

Great efforts by Emma Connell and Rachel Marshall at the back kept out the efforts from Brentford and a couple of cracking saves from our goalkeeper Chloe Russell meant we headed in at half time 2-1 up and in very good spirits.

The second half kicked off and once again the ladies started attacking fiercely with drives down both wings and great balls being played through to Laura Mott who was now running off a knock to the knee. Sophie Kelly at right-back was solid and cut out several attacks down Brentford's left-hand side before playing decent balls up the wing to Gemma Priest who drove forward at every opportunity. Lois Freedman at left-back was having a brilliant game defending lots of difficult balls played up by the Brentford defence and Katie Braithwaite made some amazing runs causing lots of confusion for the opposition's backline.

A corner for the ladies 60 minutes in saw Lisa Manley whip the ball across the six-yard box for Laura Mott to flick it on to Gemma Priest who karate kicked it home making it 3-1. The ladies ploughed on with only 10 players in great spirits supporting each other throughout and working hard for each other at every opportunity. Inevitably the ladies tired physically and mentally and 2 late goals were scored by Brentford. The first with a lucky deflection and the second through lack of concentration and being outnumbered on a corner.

Although the game ended up in a 3-3 draw the Borough Ladies deserved the win and more importantly felt like they had won. Each and every player had a fantastic game, gave 150% and should be proud of themselves.
