In the Capital Cup we were away to a new team in the league who have not lost all season. The team was built from a folded AFC Wimbledon development team and Carshalton team.
We've never seen so many coaches for one team. I counted 7 with flashy club cars with private number plates and all dressed in club shirts. Not sure if Andy will ignore my request for a club sports car for coaches!
With Darren in his holiday shorts and genuine Yves Saint Laurent polo shirt he got in a Tenerife market and Graham's 80s looking tracksuit, the only one who looked the part was Chairman Andy. He was dressed like he had just come from the latest Saga menswear catalogue photoshoot.
Well to the game (if we must).
With a few key players missing we had to take a gamble and gave two new players we had never met a trial game. Lauren and Hannah both played well and have been added to the team.
Walton's first goal would be something the mighty Arsenal would be proud of. From kick-off Walton put together about 15 passes then a goal within 45 seconds. Wandsworth never touched the ball. Our first touch was Kirsty picking it out the net. It was going to be a long afternoon.
The second goal was 4 minutes later... I left my white flag at home. Then shortly after, goal three.
Then Wandsworth started playing and for 30 minutes it stayed at 3-0. Then just on half-time Walton scored another. 4-0.
We had a couple of chances in the first half, Daryll came close, but it was mainly one-way traffic (plus the second goal did not cross the line - we needed VAR).
The second half was still one-way traffic from the Walton team. They scored again to make it 5-0, then out of the blue Kirsty scored a great goal from 40 yards as it bounced over the goalkeeper's head.
The comeback didn't last long as two more goals followed. The game ended 7-1. Out of the Capital Cup in the first round.
The best bit about the day was the beer and banter with the team afterwards in the beer garden around the corner. Plus finding out what Parker won at BONGO Bingo at Inferno's nightclub. I would tell you but it's not appropriate for the newsletter :)
Back to the league next week - hopefully three points and back to winning ways.
