AFC: 8 South / Report by Neil Watkins

Borough 6s bagged another four goals to complete a second big win over Dorking in the space of a week, although this was more of a laboured effort than the previous weekend’s 7-0 win.

After a pre-match team talk focussing on not letting Dorking score the opening goal clearly fell on deaf ears, Dorking found themselves a deserved 1-0 after 10 minutes.

The response was swift, with Black dribbling into the box and, leaving himself only the keeper to beat, firing inexplicably wide. Dorking weathered the storm well, though, and Borough had to rely on a set piece to get back into the game as McQueen bundled in a header after Duffy did well to get something on an outswinging corner.

Half time brought a change in tactics, and finally the 6s were able to get themselves ahead as yet another strong run from Black ended with the ball in the back of the net.

From that moment on, Borough never looked back. The referee was extremely generous in giving the Dorking keeper just a yellow after he cynically cleaned out Watkins when clean through on goal, but mere minutes later it was 3-1 when a good move down the right flank gave Kershaw an opportunity to find Olsson for an easy tap in.

A fourth soon followed, with Black picking up the ball from Cibardo’s long goal kick, running through on goal past a now demoralised defence and slotting easily past the keeper.

The winning margin could have been even greater but Black, perhaps with one eye on his bank balance given the fact that Dorking’s clubhouse bar was open for business, denied himself a hat-trick by side footing the ball tamely against the post.

A good day’s work all round, though, and one which saw the 6s climb to the top of their division (albeit having played two more games than bookies’ favourites Pembroke Old Boys).
