AFC: 8 South / Report by Calum Lewis

Captain Lewis feels the Borough 6s proved some doubters wrong after they turned on the style to crush Old St Mary's at home to keep pace with Old Meads and the promotion places.

The 6s had dropped six points in their previous two games, but goals by He Who Must Not Be Named, 3s regular Lee Grant, Nuno Mendes, Neil Watkins and Poland’s 2nd greatest striker behind Robert Lewandowski, Marek Swirkowski meant the 6s would batter a poor Old St Mary's side.

With five games of the league season left, the 6s are just six points behind 2nd place Old Meads, but with only home games left the 6s are hoping they can turn pitch 8 at Richardson Evans into a fortress.

Lewis' side were 2- 0 ahead in 20 minutes as Marek had an easy tap in after some great work by Mills and his testicles down the right-hand side. He Must Not Be Named banged in Borough’s 2nd goal with a beautiful effort from outside of the box – assist provided by Luke Sweeney.

Nuno Mendes, Neill Duffy and Pinchin went close before Neil Watkins beat the Old St Mary’s keeper at his far post to make it 3-0.

He Who Must Not Be Named scored his 2nd of the game to make it 4-0 going into half-time after a fantastic goal kick assist from Vinny Cibardo.

With the Club Chairman Andy Proudfoot watching on, Mills and Lewis could well be in the running for jobs in higher sides after masterminding such a great first half performance.

A half time bollocking from the Old St Mary’s captain meant they came out flying in the 2nd half. A few waves of attacks were dealt with well by the Borough back four, who have consistently lined up together all season and have built up a great understanding.

Lee Grant scored one of the goals of the game by receiving the ball from Skalicky inside the Borough half and dribbling his way through the whole Old St Mary’s side before slotting it past the keeper. Grant was humble in his goal, unlike Skalicky who is still banging on about his assist in the Borough 6s' WhatsApp group.

Nuno Mendes grabbed the 6s' last goal of the game through a well-taken volley inside the 18 yard box. The goal increases his impressive goal tally for the season as he continue to lead the 6s' goalscoring charts. Has he been attending training? Not a chance. Has he been working on his fitness? Possibly. Has his new cleaner been getting him focused before KO on a Saturday? Absolutely.

The 6s will face tougher opponents during the run-in, however, there is fresh optimism around the squad after a resounding win.
