It was supposed to be the day for Lewis’ 6s side to climb into the promotion places in 8 South. And where better than the Wimbledon Common Extensions to do it? However, throughout the game, there were signs that it might not be the Borough’s day after all.
A Neil Watkins “trademark” thunder bolt gave the Borough their opener, but was later cancelled out by a strike from one of the most well-mannered young men the 6s have ever had the pleasure to play football against.
In short, it was a horrible game of football which the referee lost control of at times. It’s a game the Borough will kick themselves for not winning after dominating most of the game and reducing Meads to just two efforts on goal.
Not much else to report other than a Border Collie running onto the pitch mid-way through the 2nd half. This caused much distress to the Meads players and their strong away support who acted as if they’ve never even seen a dog before. Clearly the only pets they take for walks in Barnes are Geese, judging from their Geese s**t covered home pitches.
The 6s will go into their next away fixture buoyed by the return of regular penalty tacker Nuno Mendes – I’ve kindly not mentioned Matt Kershaw’s disappointing penalty miss…
The points keep racking up for the 6s and they remain optimistic of getting promoted if they keep winning games and other results go their way.
