AFC: 8 South / Report by Neil Watkins

Boro 6s secured their first successive league victory as they capitalised on Whitgifts’ defensive frailties to move up the table.

Cooper’s penalty, off target but spilt into the net by the goalkeeper, and Pinchin’s three headers proved decisive for the visiting side.

Although the home team pushed Boro all the way, they were unable to force an equaliser.

That would have been harsh on the 6s, who were superior for long periods and could have added to their tally through Mills, who somehow fired wide from less than two yards out.

After an abject run, taking just one point in a winless five-game run, the 6s have at last found their feet again.

But, if the omens were not in their favour, their performance was indicative of a team growing in confidence.

Calum's tactics, which included the deployment of a trio of central midfielders, enabled them to control the game.

With players running in all sorts of different directions, tracking Boro’s movement became increasingly difficult for opposition defenders as the match wore on.

Forwards, backwards, left and right the midfielders ran, sometimes even jumping up into the air to add further confusion.

There were also solid performances from King and Skalicky at the heart of a reinforced rearguard which managed to concede a mere three goals during the 90 minutes, meaning Boro can now head into the festive period with their eyes firmly set on the top part of the table.
