3rd June 1997, Stade de Garland, Lyon, France. Le Tournoi (The Tournament, for those less cultural than I).
Fabien Barthez, doing his best impression of Nathan Mills with his shiny dome, lines up a seemingly apt 4-man wall. The free kick is miles out, after all. A left-footed, humungous-thighed-left-footer, with a hammer of a left foot, places the ball down around the 35-yard mark. The left-footed, humungous-thighed-left footer, takes several magnificent strides back. A little shimmy, then soon to full pace forward. The left-footed-humungous-thighed-left-footer, with a hammer of a left foot, connects perfectly with his left foot. The left foot shot is struck like a hammer with the outside of the left foot and looks to be flying way wide of the goal, even the cameraman/ball boy/random Frenchy thought it was heading his way, and ducked behind the hoarding. Yet, as the ball was stuck like a hammer by his left foot, the ball swerved in a curvature of approximately C(r) = 2πr, and nestled right in the corner, with Barthez/Mills only able to look on in wonder.
27th October 2018, Richardson Evans Memorial Ground, Roehampton, UK. AFA Cup (Coupe d'alliance de Football Amateur, for those more cultural than I).
As above.
