5s Report

When it rains, it pours

WBFC 5s 8 - 1 Dorkinians

Player of the match: Alex Raithatha

A rampant WBFC 5s team hit 8 past Dorkinians as they bounced back in style from last weekend's defeat. A sexy hat-trick from Sexy Mike & a brace for Joel and Neal with Jim bagging one for himself.

This season the WBFC 5s have adopted a new formation in the 433, with a focus on possession and free flowing passing football. At times this season the team has found it difficult to adapt however you’d have thought this team had been playing like this for years after watching this composed and clinical home performance.

Borough started fast, swinging crosses in and putting Dorkinians back line under pressure. The early pressure paid off. Sexy Mike opened the scoring within the first 5 minutes as he excellently used his neck to block the keepers clearance and it sailed back over the keeper for 1-0.

Joel made it two only moments later, producing fantastic skill to flick the ball over the opposition defenders and goalkeeper - you’d think now surely all he has to do is past it into an open net, but he toys with the opponents, taking 3 or 4 extra touches to allow the goalkeeper to get back to his line, before time slowed down and eventually stopped to allow him to pick his spot and blast it into the bottom corner.

The onslaught continued as Mike made it three early again in the first half after a shot by Alex was deflected by the goalkeeper straight into his path for the tap-in - an excellent poachers goal.

The pressure continued throughout the first half with some great play on the left hand side, which ended with Chris being fed through into the opposition box and crossing it right onto the boot of Neal to slot home our fourth.

Minutes later, another chance was gifted by the opposition goalkeeper and this time it was Joel who was there to bounce and bag his brace. The first half goal fest was not over yet, after Neal found himself through on the left, scoop turned past the defender and slotted the ball in at the near post.

Mike then sealed his first half Hat-trick moments before the half-time whistle volleying the ball in at the back post after a free flowing move down the left.

WBFC came out of the dressing room with hunger for more. Hat-trick hero Mike turned provider this time as he flicked the ball past his opponent at the byline and produced a delicious cross which Jim was able to head straight into the bottom corner to round off the goals. Joel was left desperately searching for his third. The 15 second half shots proved not enough and he had to settle for a brace.

Dorkinians pulled back a late consolation goal towards the end of the second half with a well struck hit that Nick could only watch fly into the top corner.

Special mention to Andy Proudfoot for heroically filling as referee last minute.

Let’s carry this momentum on to the next one
