Wandsworth Borough V 4 - 2 Old Tiffnians IV
Goals: Sam White and Will Fox x3
Assists: Will Fox, Mark Cooper, Sam White and Julian Sinclair
Mom: Will Fox
Before this weeks game, the fifths knew that four wins in the next four games would bring home the league. Strangely due to a lack of pitch availability in Wandsworth, our home game was kindly being hosted by the opposition who we had previously beaten 9-1 in the opposite leg.
Before kick off, the very enthusiastic (and good) referee laid out his cones around the pitch to help him without the aid of a linesman for offsides and ball out of play decisions. Genius.
Tiffnians were a totally different team from last time and they started the brighter of the two teams. We didn’t look match sharp having not played for 3 weeks and it quickly led to Tiffs taking the lead.
This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it woke us up. A long through ball by Cooper was pounced on by Will Fox, he steamed into the box only to be fouled. Penalty to the Borough. Sam White was nominated to get back on the horse after missing his last penalty. It wasn’t hit with conviction but rolled into the bottom corner to equalise.
Julian, Sam and Coops were now clicking and applied plenty of pressure to Tiffs back 4. This led to a mistake which was again pounced on by Will Fox and put into the back of the net. He very quickly had his second as the keeper decided to chaperone his half volley into the bottom corner after thinking it was going wide.
Half time we were up 3-1. We didn’t start the second half as well as we finished the 1st but nonetheless Fox stepped up for his hat-trick to make it 4-1. Tiffs then changed their formation which had some initial success, a volley into the top corner was a quality goal.
With the score at 4-2, we switched to four at the back and duly managed to the game to the finish. 3 more games, 3 more wins and we’ll have that league title. UTB
