The 5s Win The Title In Front Of A Record Crowd

WBFC V 3 - 0 Old Sedcopians IV
Goals: M Hinkins and T Elsworth x2
Assists: S Brennan and L Hurst
MoM: M Hinkins

Last game of the season and Richardson Evans was buzzing with excitement as Wandsworth Borough could win the league if they collected another 3 points. There were queues for the turnstiles, the stands were packed to the rafters and those at home could watch on the box as Sky had demanded an unusual 2:15pm kick off.

The game kicked off in front of the record crowd (4 people) and immediately it became clear Sedcopians were going to give us a good run for our money. No team was able to get a dominant foothold in the early part of game and it was Seds that strikes first, only for it to be disallowed for offside.

After half an hour, the boro began to rise to the occasion. A quick throw in landed at Hinkins’ feet just outside the box, who duly smashed the ball into the back of the onion bag. A great strike that sent the crowd into utter madness, the tremors of which recorded a 6.1 on the Richter scale.

Much to the delight of the crowd, one quickly became two. Luke Hurst drove the ball at the opposition defence then fed in Tim who had timed his run to perfection before very calmly slotting the ball home.

2-0 half time, we had one hand on the league title.

In the second half, our defence appeared bored and thought we’d set up the oppo some decent chances. Jack Cooper played a delicious through ball in but fortunately Chizzle tipped their strike onto the crossbar. Joe Thomas then also got in on the action but again Seds failed to accept our kindness.

Tim at this point was hobbling with an injury picked up a fortnight ago but managed to sign off the season with another goal. Seamus this time playing him in.

3-0 full time, cue the pitch invasion. The stewards managed to get everyone safely off the pitch except Duncan, who was held aloft and carried by foot all the way to the Clapham Grand whilst playing Queen, ‘we are the champions’ on repeat.
