In a very tight game, the 5s came out with all three points with a dogged display that ensured the Christmas weight put on was quickly left far behind.
Brent came out firing straight from kick off which meant we were barely able to leave our half for the first 15 mins. A counter attack led to us taking the lead against the run of play. Brent continued to press and equalised within minutes. We failed to cut out the 2nd ball, and their midfielder half-volleyed straight into the top corner.
The Borough kept fighting and managed to take the lead with five mins to go before half time. This time last year we were in the same position when Brent found a last minute equaliser; much to our despair.
After injuries to both their keeper and captain, Brent were left with 10 men and a part time keeper who fortunately for us, dropped the ball over the line after claiming a corner. 3-1.
Brent continued to attack and if it wasn’t for Chizzle’s acrobatic save, it would have soon been 3-2. A long range effort was superbly tipped onto the crossbar.
We held on but was a great defensive display with all 13 men putting a shift in for each other. Bring on next week against our local rivals Old Thorntonians.
