The 4s arrived on time and feeling confident, coming off a big win.
Kit arrived on time, warmups completed and shooting drills not being as dire as expected.
The day started off so well, clearly too well.
The first half can only be described as village. Neither team could get a grip on the game with sloppy final third play being the reason for the lack of clear cut chances.
At the end of the half Witan managed a rare shot on goal which Wilmer did brilliantly to get a hand to only for the rebound to be tapped home.
1-0 at half-time, all to play for.
After the brief delay due to the referee deciding to water the bushes, the 4s started the second half brightly.
What was on display was some of the best football ever produced on a Richardson Evans pitch. The midfield was dictating the pace of the game and Witan were under constant pressure.
The Witan keeper was called upon multiple times with Borough failing to capitalise on the dominance.
These missed chances looked set to cost us as Witan grabbed a second. The first time they ventured into the 4s' half and a scramble from a corner ended up with the ball deflecting off a defender and nestled into the corner.
Looking for a quick reply Chris Griffiths was put through on goal and was taken out by the Witan keeper. Despite his best efforts to roll into the box, the referee only awarded a free-kick.
Although he couldn’t put the resulting free-kick in, John got his payback with a crunching challenge on the sweeper-keeper, one that Vinnie Jones would have been proud of.
The 4s finally managed to get onto the scoresheet and of course it came from our trusty CB pairing of Adam Griffiths and Dan Salmon. A corner was whipped in and with Adam body slamming the ball into Dan's path, who then slotted the ball into the net, showing the front three how to finish.
They say you are most vulnerable after you score and this proved to be the case as Witan grabbed a third.
Borough continued to fight till the end and the last kick of the game summed up the day perfectly. Nathan hit a strong shot at the keeper who spilt it and Chris decided he didn’t fancy it and put it over from inside the 6-yard box.
A disappointing result but nothing an unhealthy amount of chicken nuggets and Guinness couldn’t solve.
We go again UT4s!
