BILLY GETS STARTED ON BY A GRANDAD

The 4s were up against Glyn Old Boys 3s last weekend and started things off strangely by being on time. We took our time warming up, for this only to be hampered by the opposition and the ref (who may or may not have had allegiances with them, still TBC) opting to start the match half an hour early after having asked to push the kick off back earlier in the week. So, in the end, it was normal proceedings for the Borough in terms of the warm-up.

In the first half we were playing uphill and against the wind, and the game started off evenly. With good link-up play up top between Jamie, Good Griff, Partick and Gonzy, we fashioned a couple of good chances which their mouthy keeper saved well.

The defence and midfield did well to limit chances with Wilmer making a good save or two. Into half time at 0-0, unlucky not to be 1 ahead.

Soon after the second half started, the Borough gave the ball away cheaply from a throw-in and Glyn countered with the pacey striker and grabbed the first goal.
Down but not out.

Immediately from the following kick-off, we attacked and Jamie played in Billy whose shot was saved. Luckily Partick was following in and put away the rebound. 1-1.

After this, we struggled to make many more chances whilst Glyn whipped a fluke shot into the far corner and bundled a free kick into the net (apparently). 3-1.

Their unsportsmanlike behaviour, especially in the second half (mainly from their full backs and fans, one named ‘Grandad’) led Billy to slightly provoke an aggressive argument from Grandad. This, along with a wonderfully sliced volley, gave Billy DoD. Joint MoM secured by solid performances from John & Good Griff. Pizza was floppy and cardboardy, but Gonzy didn’t care. Roll on next week.
