AFC: 6 South / Report by Patrick Laker (homework marked and corrected by Billy Crow)

Saturday’s conditions started horribly with the wind blustering around the Sutts' pitch, interrupting the usually slick passing of the 4s. With a helping hand from the Vets we managed to scramble a starting 11 together, albeit with an average age lower than usual due to the absence of Dan and McKenna.

The game started as expected with very scrappy passages of play leading to very little with Sutts edging it early on. The first major chance of the game came after some great work by Vet Jamie down the right. He swung it straight through the corridor of uncertainty where 4s' Jamie waited a mere 2 yards out from goal. Unmarked and open goal surely it was 1-0. No. Jamie clearly wanted to win his first DoD (more on this award later) as he glanced it wide. The only other Borough chance came after Partick skipped beautifully between 2 defenders and rifled a shot towards the top corner only to be denied by a stunning save from the Sutts' keeper. This would turn out to be the only shot on target Borough had all day.

At some point during the half Billy started bleeding claiming a kick in the nose although I’ve been informed snakes don’t have noses so it’s slightly contestable as to whether this actually occurred.

The second half started in the worst way possible with an OG from Vet Jamie, although he’s lucky because I can’t describe what happened as I have no memory of it actually going in. Had he staked his claim to beat 4s' Jamie to DoD, surely nothing could top these 2, right?

But the Borough don’t lie down. A free-kick on halfway was drilled in by Bench, shanked off one Sutts' shins, then another and the Borough were back in it. 1-1.

Not for long though. A scuffed shot fell kindly at the feet of a Sutts' player, clearly above the level of the team we were playing and he rifled it into the top corner. Sutts then scored again, also very little memory of this one.

There were lots of honourable mentions for DoD in the game but not so many for MoM, until Macca stepped up. A cross swung in from the left, beautifully picked out Macca at the back post with a free header, but being the Brazilian tekk master he is he retreated to leave himself in the perfect position to add a penchant of flair to the scenario. He stooped low and diving spectacularly he guided the ball straight through the keeper’s legs. OUR KEEPER'S LEGS. DoD votes secured and his work done for the day we all retreated to the bar. 5 goals, 3 OGs, 0 points and 1 TANK!!!! Harsh scoreline on the face of it but probably a deserved Sutts win.
