AFC: 6 South / Report by Adam Griffiths

This week the 4s lined up against Shene who they hadn’t played yet this season. Not only was it on the back of a disappointing run of form, but it coincided with the week when their goalkeeper, Mr Wilmer, had a week away from football for work. This meant that they went into Saturday with no keeper on their team sheet. CB regular Dan Salmon sheepishly pulled on the green jersey only to find the hero of the hour, new-father-Gordo, running from the Richardson Evans car park to the pitch just in time for the start of the game.

Shene started well with good passing. The small advantage of the hill and the breeze meant that Shene dominated possession & territory in the first half hour. However, the 4s defence and midfield dealt with every long throw and corner superbly. Only for a couple of close shaves, they looked good for the 0-0 scoreline.

From this point in the game the 4s seemed to get a small hold in the game and with a pizza good link-up play from Sh*t Griff, a slice of luck and a dollop of composure he slipped Partick in to make it 1-0 to the Boro! Against the run of play the 4s took the lead & from here the game changed.

The second half found the 4s create more and more chances, of which they should have put the game to bed. Griff C was unlucky not to get a goal after a solid performance, but it just wouldn’t fall for him. Meanwhile, the midfield and defence continued to stay strong and minimised the Shene chances.

Around the 80 minute mark, the 4s continued to push for their second goal. A shot came in from the edge of the area, crashing against an opposing player and releasing Sh*t Griff, who blasted the ball past the keeper only to hear the whistle blow for a handball. Penalty. Big Bill grabbed the ball with those scaley hands of his. No one else was taking this penalty. You could practically see the confidence running through those cold-blooded veins. There was no doubt that the Boro would be able to rest going into the last 10 mins because Billy was sure to score. What followed was 21 players simultaneously shouting “FOREEE!!” as Snake skied the ball over the bar, over the A3 and onto Richmond Park golf course.

The 4s have missed a number of penalties this season and are currently advertising for a new taker. Please direct all applications here gonzy.brexit@live.co.uk.

The 4s held out for a tough fought 1-0 victory. A well-needed win which saw them climb up the table.
