Vets report

Easter weekend so a few away plus some walking wounded meant Boro vets gave debuts to Joe Smith & Uli Kanybekov for a double header against Claygate. Cheers gents for helping us out.

With the pitch rock hard & the sun beating down it was important to stay in the first game but that plan got blown out of the window within the first five minutes as Claygate scored with their first two attacks. Back came Boro & how we did not score at least one goal in the next twenty minutes was beyond me. Westcott hit the underside of the bar & the ball bounced to safety, Renwick hit a post & again the ball did not cross the line & finally Smith was just wide with a shot. Towards the end of the half Claygate grabbed a couple of goals to give them a slightly flattering 0-4 score line at the half time break. With Uli replacing Tom the second half saw Boro give a better showing although neither side could find a goal despite some moments of quality from both sides. John Atkinson just nicked POTM from Donald Stone with Stevenson, Renwick, Hands & McNally also getting votes.

Onto game two again Claygate started better aided by an OG & then the best goal of both games volleyed in by their skipper. Plum made a great save down to his left to prevent another goal as the rub of the green did not go Boro’s way. Renwick & McNally had efforts wide or saved as both teams started to run out of steam. A Claygate player got booked for a late challenge on Uli but generally both games were played in a good spirit. Unfortunately the last 30 minutes was a bridge too far for Boro as Claygate got another three. They could have had a couple more but some bodies on the line defending & poor finishing saw the second game end 0-5. POTM was more unanimous this time with Uli taking the majority of the votes with McNally & Hands also getting a vote each. Thanks to Steve Dulley, Bob McNally & Tom Pytlos’s dad for coming to support - sorry we could not provide you with a Boro goal.

Another double header next week & hopefully we can get a bigger squad out as I am sure we will need it. Big shout out to Ashley Stevenson who fainted in the morning hitting his head but then dosed up on pain killers played the whole 120 mins.
