The scoreline in our first round WLVL League Cup game did not tell the full story of a game Borough dominated but ultimately won by a solitary goal. The goal was a gem scored on 30 mins as the newly introduced Nicholas picked the ball up in the right-back area. His pass into the feet of Atko was turned round the corner to release the flying Hoar down the wing, whose cross was expertly fired home by Renwick.

In truth, we should have been ahead already as the Lighthouse defence struggled to cope with the pace of Hoar who twice broke clear only to be denied by the Lighthouse keeper. Borough played some nice football - a second half diagonal raking pass from Harris to free Donegan on the left being a highlight, but we just could not force that second crucial goal. This despite forcing a corner count well into double figures and Nicholas hitting the woodwork.

I think Plum only has to make one real save, bravely diving at the feet of a Lighthouse forward and getting clattered for his sins. Talking of getting clattered poor Pete Renwick was marked out by the opposition for some rough treatment but got up every time.

The main thing was to get through with a win which we did to set up a tie against the winners of Ascot & Double H. Man of the match votes spread around with Harris, Nicholas, Ritchie, Atkinson and Renwick all getting votes but in the end, Chris Hogan just pipped Will Hoar. Thanks to Phil Murphy for coming along and not getting on the pitch and also for injured skipper Westcott coming to support. Job done boys.
