Vets report

WBFC Vets 2-2, Strollers (HT 1-1)?

Goals: Hoar, Renwick

Assists: Renwick, McNally J

Man of the match: Will Hoar

A much changed Boro Vets team took to the field against Strollers only to see their carefully laid tactical plans go up in smoke as Steve McNally limped off in the first minute. This meant manager Deacon had to play nearly the whole game rather than his normal 15 minutes cameos. With the rest of the team doing my running is was a fairly even first half although Strollers probably shaded the possession. Can't remember much about their opening goal but despite going behind Boro pressed on with Woolley & McNally J giving their all in central midfield looking to utilise our pace in attack - that doesn't include me! From a Strollers attack the ball was laid up to Deacon & he passed out to he right where Hoar advanced, played a neat one two with Renwick then took on their centre half before slotting neatly into the corner with a left foot finish. With the defence ably led by Sweeney & Hogan there were no further chances in first half.

Into the second half as both teams tired the game got stretched with Boro again looking dangerous on the counter attack. Chances were few and far between until Strollers retook the lead when one of their players hit a worldlie which gave Plum no chance. Back came Boro and when Jamie floated a ball over their full back for Renwick to run onto Pete slotted home despite being fouled by their player. In the dying seconds Boro had a couple of chances to win with both Renwick and Hoar going close. In the end a draw was probably a fair result. A great team performance given the circumstances which was shown in the man of the match votes. Will Hoar took the honours by one vote from John Sweeney, Chris Hogan & Mike Woolley. Big thanks to Mike, Steve Harris & Steve McNally all answering the call to arms so that we could get a team out. Thanks also to Bob McNally for coming to watch & then taking on the linesmans flag. Not quite the afternoon he had planned.
