So Boro Vets fell to the same score as they had inflicted on Poly Strollers in the previous game. With a couple of late dropouts & the majority of our young contingent away, it was an older than average Vets squad that took to the field against a younger looking BBC.

Boro battled well in the first half, so although BBC had the majority of the possession, we managed to restrict them to just the one goal. Even going a goal down did not dispirit us & we managed to level when Rivers, not giving up on a lost cause managed to squeeze the ball over their giant keeper from a tight angle.

All to play for in the second half but when the BBC got a debatable penalty as we tried to clear a corner the game was up. We kept trying to play football when on such a bobbly pitch we should have gone more long ball – consequently, we gave more goals away as we conceded possession in our half so that we found ourselves soon 5-1 down. Added to that our central midfield duo of Sweeney & Rivers both had to limp off bringing on birthday boy Jonny Hillman (57 years young) & the manager!

Still Boro were playing for pride & when a Donegan corner was swung in Renwick rose highest to head home. Pete then had another header chalked off to an offside decision at the death, that was laughable as their linesman put his flag up only on the call of the BBC defenders. Even though every player put in a shift Pete took the lions share of the man of the match votes as he battled hard up front but also came back to defend corners & free kicks. We go again next week against more tough opposition in Chelsea Vets.
