With Rob Cormack a late drop out with man flu & Plumtree, Murphy, Stevenson, Porter, Dulley & Deacon all at the changing rooms an hour before kick-off it was left to McComb to be the last to arrive. Granted he had set off from Cornwall very early in the morning so a top effort to get to the ground just after kick off despite a hold up on the M5. That's commitment for you.

With a rather longer warm-up than normal as their ref had not appeared we eventually kicked off with one of their players taking charge. They had the better of the initial openings as we struggled to find our touch with passes going astray as the lack of match practice showed. However, on ten minutes Murphy threaded the ball through for Jackson to run onto & slam into the net. Ten minutes later Atkinson sent Jackson chasing another through ball but as Sean looked to strike their defender dived in to divert the ball past the home keeper. Slowly but surely Boro's touch came back & we started playing the ball about really well with Sweeney & Harris prompting many attacks as we looked to exploit the space on the wings with Hands & Brooks on the right & Stevenson & Porter providing some decent crosses. Jackson was unlucky with a rare header that their keeper dived to keep out & Atkinson was just wide with a hooked effort. Our serene progress toward the break was rudely interrupted when following a clash of heads the ref gave a free kick against Boro which was fired over the wall & although Plumtree got his hands to it the ball dropped over the line.

Right from the kick-off Poly gave the ball away to Atkinson who sent Jackson through for a second goal to restore the Boro two-goal lead. With Boro kicking down the slope we dominated possession but had reason to fear Poly on the break as we committed men forward. When McComb's cross was flicked on by Atkinson to Murphy he had time to take a touch & then pass the ball into the net. Our progress towards victory was interrupted as Poly scored a good goal as they passed their way through Boro & their forward drove the ball in at the near post. Atkinson got the goal his tireless running deserved when he glanced a Stevenson header cleverly over the keeper as Boro ran out 5-2 winners. Sean Jackson an almost unanimous man of the match with only Atkinson & Sweeney also getting votes.
