AFC: 3 South / Report by Billy Crow

After a recent losing run, the 3s were desperate to get their season back on track.

A long-awaited home game after four of the first five games being on the road, and the last three with long trips to Guildford, Box Hill and Woking, the 3s hosted Old Crosbeians, their last opponents of the 19/20 season before it was curtailed.

The 3s started confidently, playing the ball around well with everyone getting involved. They looked in control from the start and were rewarded after about 15 minutes when they won a free-kick just inside Crosbeians' half. Charlie Richards whipped in the free-kick which was met by captain Billy Crow with a great header which sailed past the keeper, 1-0 UTB! Bench was ready to pounce and surely would have given Crow an earful if he had missed his header, good luck next time Benny Boy!

The 3s took their foot off the gas a little after the opener and invited their oppo back into the game. James Read came out of his net to meet a hopeful long ball and launched it clear, only for it to hold up in the wind, fall perfectly to their striker who hit it in his stride and looped in over James' head. An unfortunate goal to concede, but the oppo had grown into the game well, 1-1.

The rest of the half went without too much of note, and the game was evenly poised at half time. A rousing team talk at half time as Crow, Bench and Purdue all chipped in with some tactical gems, the 3s returned to the field ready to take the game to their oppo.

Shortly into the half, the intensity was rewarded, Crow was played in down the line, he back-heeled the ball nicely behind the defender to Pete, who laid it off well for Harry. Harry hit it on the turn, and into the corner of the net, 2-1, back in front!

This time we didn't let the intensity drop, not straight away at least, and looked well in control of the game, the one thing that was lacking was some shooting. Then in true Borough style, we decided to make the game interesting, we let the oppo get back into the game, and it was a real backs against the wall type situation for the final 10 minutes or so. However, we bravely saw it out to hold on for the three points. Fortress RE this week.

Hopefully we can follow this up with a few more home wins, it'll have to wait a week though as we are off this Saturday.
