DRAMATIC END TO 2018
AFC: 4 South / Report by Joe Smith
Scene: very cold, very wet.
Expected start: Borough playing better football but go behind.
Comeback: a deserved equaliser, Smith feeding a through ball to Grant, who beats the keeper.
Interval: not long after, Grant goes down badly on his shoulder; the fortuitous presence of a doctor playing for Crosebians confirms a dislocation. Ambulance called, teams huddle shivering in the changing rooms and decide what to do - Smith selflessly opts to wait inside with Grant for the ambulance and the other 10 troop back into the storm for the next 70 minutes of football, co-opting a man from the 4s to make the 11.
Ambulance arrives after 2 hours, Grant is shipped off to St George's, Smith returns to the field, but alas the team have crumbled without the goalscoring duo and the score is 3-1.
It is now very cold, very wet, much too dark to play football, and the team are all somewhat miffed at the skipper for sending them back into the fray while he waited inside in the dry.
Light stopped play at 85 minutes.
