AFC: 4 South / Report by Tom Andrews

Two weeks on from the mighty 3s taking their first win of the season, the team travelled over to Barn Elms to carry on from there and hope to turn that into a winning streak... TL;DR, great performance, another draw, and our third Desmond of this campaign.

Despite Nihill being in charge of the kit and arriving 15 minutes late (insert roll eyes emoji here) the Borough were in good spirits and found ourselves out on the pitch warming up talking about the game well in advance of the opposition. It was Borough that were keen to get things running and take control as it was our very own Grant (also skipper for the day) that went and found the lost referee on behalf of our hosts.

Taking the previous game into consideration we went with an attacking lineup, deciding to take the game to Fulham. Only 10 minutes in to the game the 3s found themselves charging forwards on the counter-attack, watching from the back as we brought our line up we witnessed a string of quick passes cutting through the Compton defensive line, in to the box, step up Tim Werger on his 3s debut and he slots home taking the Borough 1-0. Striker.

Compton reacted well and applied pressure, plenty of corners and throw-ins coming in to the Borough box, most of which were well defended until the Borough defensive line got complacent. Stood still the ball drifted through the box, Borough defence watching the Compton attacker drift in for a tap in by the far post. 1-1. Bugger.

Half time. A team talk about using the channels on this bog of a pitch, and above all, keep calm, and press high!

Compton certainly started the second half the better, right from the off they applied pressure with the Borough somewhat asleep post our half time chatter and perhaps a little too calm..

Compton kept the pressure on for much of the start of the second half, resulting in them taking the lead and going 2-1 up. Bugger. A rallying call to the team to remain with heads up, and respond appropriately.

Respond appropriately we did. For the remainder of the game the Borough continued to press, higher and higher, chance after chance each getting closer and closer. Five left, step up Scott Cozens-Smith, 20 yards out (he says 30), Scott takes a volley, on the turn and smashes it in the to the far top corner. 2-2. Liquid football and something about a traction engine.

Both teams pushed equally for the last 5 minutes, but a Desmond it ended. A great response from the 3s having gone 2-1 down and really pushing for the result.

Special note to Tim Deacon, thanks for coming to support and endure the weather!

UP THE BOROUGH!
