ANOTHER STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

An improved performance was top of Borough's wish list this week - thankfully from the outset it was clear the team were geared up to deliver it.

Energy and commitment were higher, passing and movement were sharper; it looked like a different side to the previous week.

Despite this, luck is clearly not with the Mighty 3s this season - having been on top over the course of the first half, an unfortunate error cost them a goal and saw them enter the break one down.

The team kept battling, looking strong and stringing together some passages of impressive passing play, Moon in particular looking dangerous going forward.

It was from one of Moon's driving runs that the goal was finally to come; after shrugging off a couple of challenges the midfielder found himself scythed down in the box - penalty given.

To add to the drama, as skipper Smith stood holding the ball waiting patiently, Sinjuns' protestations were such that after a protracted interchange the referee promptly forgot he had awarded a penalty and signalled for a free kick.

Cue further debacle, Smith still holding the ball and feeling the nerves start to creep in - thankfully a reminder from the Borough nudged the ref back in the right direction and the penalty was re-awarded.

The spot kick was duly dispatched, grazing the inside of the post to level things up with 5 minutes to play.

Borough threw everything at Sinjuns to get the winner, and it looked likely for a time, but the game finished a 3s classic 1-1; however, scoring rather then conceding in the 85th minute puts a different charm on the result.

The first win is still elusive, but must surely be on the way as the team continue to gel.
