Report by Corey James

Following a statement win on the road, Boro returned home looking to build on last week and pick up the first home win of the season with the lads further incentivised to perform well in front of the club's all-new Veo camera recording the game.

Boro started the match brightly, but it was the away side who scored first following an own goal from a set piece that was met by Finn, which in all fairness, was a solid finish. A shaky few minutes followed as Boro tried to regather themselves despite a positive start to the game. Control was soon restored through the middle of the park, with Glover shrugging off an early head injury from heading the ball to lead the fightback alongside Jack and Alex in Midfield

Boro found joy getting the ball into the channels for wingers Max and Lewis who were a threat from the wings. Boro came closest to equalising in the first half when Glover met a cross and rattled the crossbar. Lewis had been causing problems for the away side down the left but an unfortunate wrist injury meant he had to come off just before the break.

Half-time came with Boro 1-0 down and feeling hard done by. Despite that, the team was not discouraged and the message was simple, keep doing what we're doing and the goal will come.

The second half carried on where Boro left off, with Boro dangerous down both flanks and the away side visibly wilting under a barrage of long throws that would have made Tony Pulis shed a tear of joy and nostalgia. The pressure finally told when 15 minutes into the second half Max whipped in an excellent corner and put it on a plate for Corey to head home to make it 1-1.

With the momentum in Boro’s favour, the lads pushed on for the winner. The away side was further disheartened at the sight of Scott being introduced on the left wing and rightly so. The decisive moment of the game came after goalkeeper Tom Belge took matters into his own hands in the last 15 minutes and showed great vision to kick the ball up the pitch and play Scott through on goal who cool as ice, brought the ball under control, composed himself and slotted it past the keeper to score the winner.

The final ten minutes were all about seeing the game out and securing all three points. The back four, marshalled by Lewis Masters, stood firm and the whole team dug in to defend set pieces together. The full-time whistle brought a first home win of the season for Boro.

All in all, a good shift from the lads, who showed character to go a goal down and never let their heads drop before going on to win the game. It's the kind of test that will stand Boro in good stead for similar situations later in the season. The result puts Boro joint top of the table with real momentum heading into the next match.
