AFC: 2 South / Report by Alex Outhwaite

After some favourable results the week before, the red tops knew that a win against struggling Meads would close the gap on the top two teams and blow the title race wide open.

Preparations were far from ideal with Glover realising en route that he'd left the kit at home, but with the help of Glover senior and an Uber driver, a crisis was averted and the red tops got their red tops.

In blustery conditions, the message was to keep the ball on the floor and play it simple. With Taffinhio on the sidelines barking out commands and under the watchful eye of the Borough Chairman, the 2s were geared up to take the game to Meads. The opening exchanges saw Borough dominate possession and start to put the Meads goal under pressure. It wasn't too long before Glover, desperate to make amends for his red top debacle earlier, nodded home the opener, Cozens-Smith with the corner found Glover unmarked at the far post to head home.

2-0 then shortly followed, Outhwaite played in down the wing, got past the Meads covering defender and squared the ball to the in-form Pickles who took a touch and slotted home from close range. Borough had their tails up and soon the third goal followed, Faure superior picking up the ball in the middle, played Outhwaite in down the wing, the ball was crossed in and Cozens-Smith was on hand to glance it home. The remainder of the first half then played out without too many chances, Borough guilty of taking their foot off the gas and overplaying the ball at times, but also windy conditions perhaps getting the better of the game.

The half time message from Jamo was to get back to basics. Borough did so and immediately started to create more chances, and after some well-maintained pressure, Borough got their 4th of the game. Richards whipping in a corner which came through a crowd of bodies to Outhwaite, who took a touch to get the ball under control only for Marcus Faure to crash in and blast the ball home from 4 yards. Four soon became five, Outhwaite receiving the ball on the edge of the box, cut inside on his left and curled the ball into the corner of the net. There were plenty more chances to follow but none were taken by Borough, however a big win and a good boost to the goal difference which could be crucial come the end of the season with the table looking very tight amongst the top 5 teams. The 2s go into their final four games with their title hopes in their own hands.
