AFC: 2 South / Report by Stu Pickles

After the crop field defeat last week it was crucial the red tops bounced back with a victory to keep their season alive and in their own hands. Tilburg the visitors to a new pitch on the sacred turf of Richardson Evans and all to play for.

On a bigger, flatter pitch Borough got back into their passing groove early on, with Youngman and Kennedy switching play to both fullbacks, Ballard and J Faure, with great effect and a few half chances created. The first half continued in a similar vein, Richards and Hill combining well down the right flank to create the best chance of the half with the keeper luckily tipping a Hill drive round the post. Halftime 0-0.

The team seemed calm and confident of victory, sticking to their free-flowing style and not panicking, the deadlock was finally broken. A lovely interchange of passes saw Ballard drill an early cross into the box from deep, Pickles latching onto it with a stretching volley giving the goalie no chance. 1-0 and fully deserved.

Tilburg heads started to drop after the goal, and the second came soon after. Kennedy curling a free-kick in from the edge of the box to find Pickles arriving at the front post to power his header into the top corner. 2-0 and game over.

Borough intent on laying a marker down in the league continued to push for more, and Hill was the latest beneficiary of some quality build up. Pickles picking up the ball in midfield to release Hill down the left, with pace to burn he turned defenders inside and out before tucking home into the net. A fourth goal, as predicted by skipper J Faure came in the last few moments. Glover excited to be back, sprinted off the pitch to take a quick short corner, that ball coming back to him to cross, picking out Outhwaite's run to head home at the back stick.

4-0, and with Old Thorntonians dropping points a very successful day for the mighty Borough!
