2s report

After several weeks without a game, the 2s finally returned to action last weekend with a trip to fellow strugglers Brent.

With some rustinesses and a few lads carrying knocks, the last thing the Boro needed was a pitch that resembled a World War One battlefield. Sadly the Brent pitch wouldn't look out of place at The Somme.

However, despite a scrappy start to the game, the 2s grew into the game. The defensive line of Murray, Youngman, McNally, and Watson played some nice stuff out from the back, while Glover and Faure were starting to win the midfield battles. Glover's persistence led to the first big chance, where he won the ball and laid it off to Age who rattled the post with a long-range drive.

The 2s kept going and Cozens-Smith was feeding both Ndlovu and Smith on the wings who were starting to dominate their full backs. The only time Boro looked threatened was on the counter attack, but Belger made a smart one on one save to keep the score 0-0.

As half time approached, the 2s looked like they would be going into the break all square, however Brent broke and tucked away a one on one with just seconds remaining before the break.

However, Boro were still in the game. Fagen was brought on at half time and a couple of his mazy runs almost led to a chance.

Martin, on the comeback trail after a recent back injury, came on for McNally, and Boro were searching for the equaliser.

Sadly, Belger misjudged a long throw and the ball landed at the feet of a Brent striker who easily poked the effort home. A double blow came shortly after, as Brent pushed forward and buried another effort past the hapless Belger.

In previous games, the 2s have folded when the game has looked out of sight, but this time they rallied and kept attacking.

Their efforts were rewarded when Youngman headed home Age's well hit corner, and seconds later Age put through Ndlovu who made it 3-2.

Sadly there was no repeat of Istanbul or Crystanbul this time, as the referee blew his full time whistle.

Not the result the 2s wanted, but some encouraging signs which they can take into their upcoming run of must-win fixtures.
